C.J. Uzomah will provide Zach Wilson a new offensive weapon in a position of need.
Despite OC Mike LaFluer’s Shanahan-style offense designed to feature tight ends, the Jets no-name trio ranked in the back half of the league last year.
Uzomah’s yardage in 2021 doesn’t jump off the page at first glance. But he ranked among the top tight ends in the game in a few important categories.
Uzomah averaged 6.1 yards after the catch per reception in 2021.
That was 7th among all tight ends.
That placed him just behind George Kittle. And he easily outpaced a few other stars at the position, including Darren Schultz (4.5) and Darren Waller. (4.4)
Uzomah was 10th in total YAC yardage (300 yards) despite being 18th in Targets.
Monday’s deal with the Jets is a 3 year agreement for $24 million.
