Similar name, similar game? Polo-Mao turning heads in black – like famous uncle

It’s not just Isaiah Polo-Mao’s last name – and safety position – that might sound familiar to a certain NFL Hall-of-Famer.

It’s the shared bloodline, too.

Safety, Isaiah Polo-Mao is an undrafted free agent for the Raiders and is the nephew of First-Ballot-Hall-of-Famer Troy Polamalu who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers for 12 years.

Often called the Flyin Hawaiian, Polamalu won two Super Bowls and Defensive Player of the Year in 2010.

His nephew’s path to the playing field wasn’t quite as direct.

Pola-Mao made the roster out of training camp before Las Vegas waived him and then re-signed him to the team’s practice squad in Week 4.

He was activated on November 9th to the active roster and has made the most of his opportunity showing flashes of his uncle.

He has recorded 9 solo tackles.

He also had 2 quarterback hits and sack in a 27-20 win vs the Los Angeles Chargers.

“It’s all about running through and getting to the quarterback, that’s what I did and went to power and ended up falling right into it.”

The right place at the right time, it seemed.

Just like Uncle Troy – so many times before him.
