Just a few months removed from closing the book on an 18-year run with their last franchise quarterback, one NFL draft pro believes the Pittsburgh Steelers may get their pick of the 2022 crop to decide who’ll replace him.
It’s one of several signs pointing to the likelihood the Steelers will grab a quarterback in the first round of Thursday’s draft.
According to ESPN’s Todd McShay, all of this year’s QB prospects may be available when Pittsburgh gets its turn at 20.
“As it stands right now my sources don’t believe there is a team in the top 19 picks that will be drafting a QB,” he wrote
The Steelers have been linked to Malik Willis, although other draftniks have cast doubt on whether he’ll fall to the 20th pick.
Steelers officials have noted that regardless of when they spend draft capital on a future Quarterback, “we have to get it right,” GM Kevin Colbert said.
Future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger retired in February.
