Mac Jones and most of his fellow New England Patriot starters likely won’t play tonight in the team’s opening preseason match vs. the New York Giants.
But don’t be surprised if one top prospect, Tyquan Thornton, gets a chance to shine.
Thornton, a 6’3″ wideout who has impressed in camp in recent days would be making his Pro debut and getting a chance to acclimate himself against a Giants defense that will also be resting plenty of players.
The Patriots staff prefers to sit stars to avoid injury.
But Thornton needs experience — and will likely join fellow rookies on the field.
Thornton was drafted high partly due to his blazing speed but the talk of late has been his route-running and quick moves, which are better than previously advertised.
If his habits translate into the NFL season it would break a recent trend of draft day flops at the position for New England.
