Baker Mayfield is finally on the move.
And he apparently was willing to slash his salary to do it.
The Browns and Panthers have reportedly agreed to a trade sending Mayfield to Carolina in exchange for a 2024 conditional fifth-round pick, per NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport.
It can become a fourth-round selection, although exact benchmarks werent immediately detailed.
And it appears that at least, for now, he’ll be joining a 2018 NFL Draft classmate.
Mayfield joins a QB room that includes Sam Darnold, another Top 3 in that year’s class.
In doing so, Cleveland will pay Mayfield $10.5 million in 2022 – a cap sacings of $8 million vs. keeping him, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo
Carolina is on the hook for the remaining $5 million because Mayfield was willing to cut his salary by $3.5 million.
