Matt Rhule’s tenure as head coach of the Carolina Panthers is over.
Just partway into his third season at the helm, the Panthers organization fired Rhule, cutting short a contract that wasn’t set to expire until 2027.
Rule went 1-4 this year with his offense and defense both struggling.
His best year was a 5-11 campaign during his 2020 season that saw the team perform well at times.
But Rhule’s popularity amomg fans dwindled over the past year and his team’s performance on-field did too.
He becomes the first NFL coach this season to lose his job.
