Former Bengals’ DT Larry Ogunjobi, who had seven sacks last season, is visiting today with the Pittsburgh Steelers, per source. He recently visited with the New York Jets.
Former Bengal Larry Ogunjobi has an offer on the table from the New York Jets. It comes after ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the pass rusher spent two days with the team. And, according to former Jet turned-analyst Leger Douzable, it’s one of two “final offers” the team put on the table for current free agents (The other is former 49er Kwon Alexander).
It’s not known if Cincinnati has tendered an offer to Ogunjobi, while other potential fits like the Atlanta Falcons, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs could all stand to add another quality defensive lineman.
Coming off a 2021 season that saw him post career highs in pressures and sacks, Larry Ogunjobi should have been heading into free agency on a high note.
Instead, a lingering foot injury brought his tentative 3 year/$39 million deal with the Chicago Bears to a sudden halt in March.
Now, Ogunjobi is apparently back on job interview tour again.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the former Brown and Bengal defensive tackle spent part of two days visiting the Jets.
Ogunjobi is a former teammate of another ex-Bengal recovering from an injury, Carl Lawson.
There was no indication a deal was imminent.
The Jets already have Sheldon Rankins and Quinnen Williams in the interior defensive line and John Franklin-Meyers also projects as a DT in 2021 – but Coach Robert Saleh follows the 49ers mindset when it comes to building depth across the defensive line.
The Bears and Saints are also still in need of more bodies on their defensive line and Ogunjobi might be an instant starter, if healthy, on Chicago’s interior.
Chicago withdrew it’s offer to Ogunjobi in Marxh after he failed their team physical.
After logging 7 sacks and more than 30 pressures last season, Ogunjobi was injured during the Bengals’ playoff run.
He has since posted images of himself rehabbing at Athletix Rehab and Recovery, which has also hosted Saints Safety Marcus Maye and Panthers WR Robbie Anderson in recent this spring, photos show.
