Early in the first quarter, Josh Allen took off and ran for a first down. Instead of sliding, he took an unnecessary hit by the New York Jets defenders.

Monday Night Football commentator and Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman commented that Allen should’ve slid instead of taking the hits.

It foretold the rest of the night as Allen threw 3 interceptions and fumbled once as the Buffalo Bills lost to the New York Jets 22-16 in overtime.

On a night where Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was injured in the opening drive, it seemed the Bills would take care of business. It resulted in a halfhearted effort and terrible decision making from Josh Allen. Since last season though, Allen has continued to play reckless which has hurt Buffalo.

Last season, he had 19 turnovers which led the league. It also included 5 interceptions in the red zone. He did suffer an elbow injury a season ago during the second half of last season and threw fewer than two touchdowns in four of the Bills’ next six games after the injury.

The Bills in the off season drafted TE Dalton Kincaid and were looking at running back by committee with James Cook and company. During the game despite the Jets offensive struggles they turned away from the running the football or short passes, instead relying on Allen throwing long.

Many around the country and in Buffalo have picked the Bills as Super Bowl favorites the last 3 seasons or so. Under Allen they are 0-5 in overtime in his career. Allen also has 43 turnovers when the point margin is 7 points or under. If the Bills wished to be compared to the Chiefs under Mahomes, Allen must improve or their Super Bowl window will shut quickly.
