After spending the month at Bommarito Performance Systems in South Florida to prepare for the NFL Combine, Velus Jones Jr said he knew he was ready to showcase his speed.
But a 4.32 second 40 yard dash?
Even he was a bit surprised, he told media Wednesday.
“I tapped into another level,” he said during his Pro Day in Tennessee.
Jones said he ended up seeking out a few scouts for an outside opinion.
“I feel like I put myself in the best position possible,” he told media, adding that he focused on route separation and speed this offseason.
Jones pointed out it was his second attempt that yielded his 4.32 second finish. It ranked second in the FBS among receivers this year.
And at his size, 6 feet and 200 pounds, Jones said he is confident he has improved his draft stock.
“A lot of people was blown away, I feel like, with my size and my rare skill set, that I was going to run that fast,” he said.
