Garrett Wilson’s electric rookie season – is now a historic one.
For the Jets, at least.
The Ohio State product’s 78 yards against the Buffalo Bills vaulted his season total past Keyshawn Johnson for the most yards by a receiver as a Jets rookie.
Johnson set the record in 1996 with 844 yards.
He achieved the feat in 14 games.
Wilson topped that in just 13 games – with four more left to go in the season.
The first-year pro had most of those yards in just six games with New York’s backup quarterbacks.
He had a total of 549 when quarterbacks Joe Flacco and Mike White were behind center.
While the Jets have featured a number of Pro Bowl receivers in their history, just a few pass-catchers flashed as rookies.
Keyshawn Johnson, of course, was one of them, famously arguing he didn’t get enough “damn” passes thrown his way after the 1996 season ended.
Wesley Walker, a 13-year Jet, had 740 yards as a rookie in 1977.
And fan favorite Wayne Chrebet had 726 yards on 66 grabs, which stands as the most receptions for any Jets rookie today.
Wilson is just three catches shy of that mark entering the Jets game against Detroit on Sunday.
