Arik Armstead

Injury update: Armstead has MCL injury

San Francisco 49ers standout lineman Arik Armstead sprained his MCL and will need time – at least “a few weeks” to recover, the team’s coach told media Friday.

Armistead apparently suffered the sprain in practice.

He was unable to join the team on the field Thursday. “It’s probably going to be a few weeks. Nothing we’re concerned about, but we’re taking some time away,” Kyle Shanahan told reporters.

The 49ers would miss Armstead if he’s out an extended period.

The former Oregan Duck had 63 tackles in 2021 and 6 sacks — previously posting as many as 10 over the past several years.

Still 28 years old, he posted a 77 Pro Football Focus grade in 2021 — a top 15 pass rusher in recent years.

Among other injuries, Jamal Adams left camp Thursday with concerns about his surgically repaired hand.  Buccaneers Center Ryan Jenson may miss the year with a knee injury and Chase Young will reportedly miss “some time” with an ACL injury, according to NFL.com
