Sometimes what occurs in the game can transcend a rivalry.
On Monday night as the Pittsburgh Steelers were playing the Cleveland Browns, Browns running back Nick Chubb severely injured his knee during the second quarter of the game.
The injury was so severe that ESPN would not allow a replay to be shown. Steeler fans could be heard giving an audible gasp of the replay on the jumbo screen at Acrisure Stadium.
ESPN commentator Troy Aikman stated, “It’s as bad as you can imagine.”
Prayers came in from around the NFL and sports world. From Current NFL players to Lebron James and JJ Watt, everyone was sending thoughts and prayers his way.
The severity of the injury as not lost on Steelers fans.
The entire Pittsburgh Stadium was quiet as the medical staff worked on Nick Chubb. They began to chant “Chubb” and gave him a standing ovation as he was carted off the field.
Chubb, 4 time Pro Bowler, has been ruled out the remainder of the season. Browns and Steelers fans will once again be at each other throats and talking trash on social media. But for one moment on Monday Night they came together to respect a fallen player.
