How Steelers Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is progressing; Will he play?

The Pittsburgh Steelers may be missing another defensive anchor this weekend.

With TJ Watt already out, Coach Mike Tomlin announced Tuesday that Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is in concussion protocol.

Tomlin said the star safety was diagnosed after raising the issue following Cleveland’s game.

But per NFL rules to protect player safety, he will have to clear a five separate clearance “steps” to be permitted to play.

The Steelers and Jets both have injuries piling up this week.

New York may be down to starting a tackle signed off the street and a rookie, Max Mitchell with Mekhi Becton, Duane Brown and George Fant all injured.

Linebacker Quincey Williams is week to week with a high ankle sprain, per Jets Coach Robert Saleh.

The Steelers are missing Watt and, perhaps, cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon.
