Tyrann Mathieu is apparently heading home.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the versatile safety is expected to sign with the New Orleans Saints, slotting him in a defense that had a hole to fill with Malcolm Jenkin’s retirement over the winter.
Mathieu’s return is a true homecoming.
He was born in New Orleans and played for LSU in Baton Rouge before being kicked off the team a decade ago for marijuana use.
For the Saints, Mathieu will fill the back end of a Dennis Allen defense that is set up to let him excel in 2022.
It could mean a bit of a change for Taysom Hill.
Hill currently wears Mathieu’s no. 7.
