Fitz over; Veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick retiring

Ryan Fitzpatrick retires after 17 NFL seasons

After 17 years on nine NFL franchises, pro football’s most prominent journeyman is apparently calling it a career.

Ryan Fitzpatrick hasn’t played since sustaining a hip injury mid-way into his 2021 season with the Washington Commanders.

After an offseason of rehab, he decided to let his former teammates — hundreds of them in all – know through a single text message.

“Forever grateful for the magical ride,” he wrote.

In 166 games, Fitz threw for 34,990 passing yards and 223 touchdowns.

Along the way, he had memorable seasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bengals, Dolphins, Jets, and Texans — often taking the reigns on losing organizations and making them far more competitive (and entertaining), if not playoff caliber.
